International Service
The Rotary Club of South Wagga has been involved in international Rotary projects for many years predominantly in the 3rd world country of Nepal.
We have sponsored and participated in the refurbishment and construction of many schools, hospitals, health clinics and help sponsor an entire village reconstruction after the devastating earthquake of 2015.
Our current projects in partnership with the Rotary Club of Kathmandu are the construction and establishment of the Sindhuli Community Technical Institute. A technical college in a remote district with the aim to provide tertiary education for students outside of the large cities. South Wagga has donated many thousands of dollars and many South Wagga members have been a member of the construction teams who have helped with the establishment of this now vibrant educational facility. Any of those who have participated will know the feeling of achievement and joy when the local people and students are so eager to show their appreciation for your time spent assisting people much less fortunate than most Australians.
The other project we are involved with is the Sindhuli Primary School Fund. While working at SCTI we noticed a large number of children did not appear to attend school. Public schooling is readily available in Nepal and upon enquiring found that these children come from the families of the Dalit or lower caste people and as such their families could only carry out the most menial of work with very little pay. As such the parents could not afford the uniforms books and essentials needed for a child to attend school SO we decided to create a RAWCS project to try and raise funds so as to supply uniforms etc for these children allowing them to attend school which will enable them to gain employment in a well-paying job and help break the “caste” cycle. With the RC of Kathmandu supervising the project we now sponsor 800+ Dalit children with uniforms, books and when needed
